Goals of the Collaborative
We are committed to joining together in a new effort—the Plowshares Collaborative—to strengthen peace studies on our campuses, in Indiana, and across the United States. Over a four-year grant period, we propose to demonstrate that we can develop programs that will mutually reinforce one another:
We will strengthen our campus peace studies programs with:
- Faculty Development
- Grants for Students
- On-Campus Special Events
- Library Resources
- Support for Campus Programs
We will develop courses on each campus that can be taken by students on the other two campuses, including:
- "Smart" Classrooms
- Instructional Materials for Electronic Classrooms.
We will initiate Peace House, a residential program in Indianapolis for students, and:
- Provide an opportunity for our students and those from other colleges and universities to extend their work in peace studies, especially where field experience intersects with classroom learning
- Offer a place to develop new approaches to the study and practice of peace and justice in cooperation with other Indianapolis organizations that share such commitments
From a base at Peace House, we will lay the groundwork for continuing conflict resolution work in metropolitan Indianapolis by:
- Resources for Community Outreach
- Host a National/International Peace Organization
We will provide opportunities in peace studies for faculty and students at other colleges and universities, including:
- Undergraduate Conferences
- Visiting Students to the Three Colleges
- Peace Academies
We will strengthen dialogue among the three peace church denominations
We will draw attention to the three colleges and to Indiana as significant sites for peace studies, by:
- Public Events in Indianapolis.
