Goshen College
"The regenerate do not go to war, not engage in strife. They are the children of peace who have beaten their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks, and know of no war….Their sword is the sword of the Spirit which they wield with a good conscience through the Holy Spirit." - Menno Simons

Most students fulfill the requirement by participating in the Study-Service Term, one of the most unique study abroad programs in the country.
Groundbreaking Study Abroad Program
Goshen College is known for its one-of-a-kind, groundbreaking study abroad program, the Study-Service Term, which began 35 years ago and continues today with experienced faculty members leading small groups of students to:
- China
- Cuba
- Dominican Republic
- Indonesia
- Germany
- Ethiopia
- West Africa
The semester-long program begins with six weeks of study of language, history and culture of the host country, usually in its capital city, while students live with host families for a cultural immersion experience.
During the second half of the term, students go to other parts of the country for service assignments—often related to their major—in schools, local businesses, medical clinics, orphanages, radio stations, agricultural offices, women’s support outreach, church organizations and more.
