The Partnership for Effective Peacekeeping

In its Policy Center, PEP provides links to U.S. legislation, congressional testimony and administrative initiatives that relate to U.N. peacekeeping operations, as well as reports dealing with U.S. policy and international peacekeeping policy. The Information Center includes a collection of articles, reports and briefs on peace operations from a variety of research and citizens groups. In addition, there are links to commentary from major newspapers and some journals.

Peacekeeping Best Practices

This site specializes in "policy, analysis and lessons learned for the peacekeeping community." It contains numerous documents dealing with peace processes and agreements, peacekeeping reform, post-conflict reconstruction/recovery, civilian police and rule of law. Users can search the Library of Documents or browse by mission, topic, document type or region.

Peacekeeping – Conflict Resolution Information Source

Although brief, this page acts as a gateway to a good deal of information from both CRInfo and the Beyond Intractability Project. In addition to an overview essay that provides a good introduction to peacekeeping, there are also numerous annotated links to articles out on the web.

Peacekeeping Global Policy Forum

Global Policy Forum’s peacekeeping page includes an overview of UN peacekeeping, information on missions in specific countries and links to articles on peacekeeping from August 1999 to the present. There are also sections on reform, finance and U.S. policy on U.N. peacekeeping.

Peacekeeping & Peacemaking United States Institute of Peace

Drawn from the Institute’s Special Report and Peaceworks publications, these reports address such topics as civilian police, conflict management and the role of Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) in peacemaking.

UN News Centre Peace and Security

Current news on peace and security from the United Nations News Centre in New York. Also includes a searchable news database back to 2001.

United Nations Association of the United States of America

In addition to information their Model U.N. program, this site provides coverage of U.N. issues such as international law, peace and security and U.S.-U.N. relations. Fact sheets, policy briefs and The InterDependent, the organization’s quarterly magazine, are also available.

United Nations Documentation Dag Hammarskjöld Library

This research guide gives a good overview of the kinds of documentation that are available on peacekeeping from the Security Council and the General Assembly. From here, the best place to go for full text is the Official Document System of the United Nations. Try searching with such keywords as peacekeeping operations, peacemaking, peace-building, preventive diplomacy, truce supervision, or international police.

This official U.N. site provides facts & figures, documents, maps and background information on past and current peacekeeping operations. In addition to a glossary and a photo gallery, there are links to select U.N. publications such as 50 Years of United Nations Peacekeeping Operations and Meeting New Challenges: Q&A on United Nations Peacekeeping.

United Nations Peacekeeping Forces Nobelprize.com

Official Nobel Prize site includes Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar's acceptance speech and Nobel lecture, as well as a history of the organization.

United Nations Peacekeeping: Issues for Congress

Updated in June 2005, this document by the Congressional Research Service includes background and analysis, information on the current funding situation and proposals for strengthening U.N. peacekeeping.
